Our Mission
The mission of the Black Church at Yale is to make fully-devoted followers of Christ—disciples—as outlined in Jesus’ commission of His disciples.
Uniquely on Yale's campus, our focus is to reach students with the Gospel; make disciples; and help students to grow in their understanding, personal relationship and commitment to God.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:19-20
We endeavor to:
Love God – We will use our creativity, time and resources to create an Spirit-led atmosphere of worship for God every Sunday morning (Luke 10:27a). We want to demonstrate our love for God through a lifestyle of praise, prayer, study, giving and service.
Love People – We commit to love all people regardless of our differences (Luke 10:27b). We desire to build meaningful relationships within our church and throughout the greater Yale community.
Serve the Nations – Jesus was a servant leader and we will be a servant people (Luke 22:24-27). We aspire not only to serve inside the church with excellence, but to minister in the marketplace.
This church will produce future problem solvers for the greatest global challenges, thus becoming the salt and light of the world. (Matthew 5:13:16; Matthew 28:18-20)
